The idea that I now have for you is one that I think can make you a tremendous amount of money! I am going to call this, “Content Wealth - How To Make Thousands Of Dollars Giving Away Free Content That You Don’t Even Own.” Now, it may sound a little strange that you could possibly make money giving away free content, but by the time I am done with this short presentation, you’ll have a better understanding of exactly how it works.

This is basically like an online distributorship. If you put an advertisement on your web site, you basically put a banner ad on your web site that leads people back to Amazon.com and then Amazon.com pays you a commission for all your sales. That’s what an affiliate program is, and Amazon.com is the best example of one in action.

There are thousands and thousands of affiliate programs available on the Internet. There are so many of them that it would be hard for one single person to find them all. Most people wouldn’t have any need for all of them, but if you’re a web site, you would have a need for several of the best affiliate programs that cater to your specific market. That could be a valuable piece of content to have on your web site, and could very well provide a valuable service to your web site visitor.

What I recommend you do is start a web site and call it something like www.affiliatewarehouse.com or www.affiliateoutlet.com, or something like that. Both of these names are probably already taken, in fact. I had not checked to see if they were taken, but you can certainly do that. This way your web site simply becomes a one-stop affiliate shop where other web sites can come to find out about dozens, or even hundreds, of different affiliate programs that are available to their specific market. They simply click the link from your web site and then go directly to that affiliate program to sign up. You could even offer a package where you actually sign them up for affiliate programs. I don’t recommend you do that, though. It is simply easier if you just say, “Click here to go directly to their web site and sign up for their affiliate program.”

You basically become an outlet. Everybody comes to you to find all of the appropriate affiliate programs in their specific market. You might have hundreds, or even thousands, of different affiliate programs available. You would become the Yahoo of the affiliate world, where every web site owner that was interested in affiliate programs could come to you to find out about the affiliate programs in their market.

You would categorize the different affiliate programs so your visitors would have an easier time sorting through them. If they were a business that catered to the opportunity market, they could see a list of opportunity type affiliate programs. If they were interested in any kind of subject matter, they could instantly see a list of affiliates in that particular area of interest.

You might even offer a search feature. Maybe they knew the name of an affiliate program but they weren’t sure what it was. They could search for that affiliate program by name and it would immediately pull that up so they could go right to it.

Maybe you could also list a brief description of each affiliate program. Instead of just having a link to the affiliate program, you could have a brief description telling them a little bit more about it and how much money they can make. Maybe you could even rate them. You could say, “I believe this is a two star affiliate program. I believe this is a four star.” This way they could get your recommendation for how powerful you believe each affiliate program is. Those are the kinds of things you could do as you expand, and as you build your business. You might just want to start by offering the affiliate links themselves.

Okay, now you’ve got your content on your site and you’ve got other web sites getting their content from your web site. How do you make your money?

You can make your money selling advertising. By having all these different affiliate programs listed on your web site, what are you going to get? The answer is, lots and lots of traffic!

You could have tens of thousands - maybe even hundreds of thousands - of visitors every day or every week - certainly every month! All of those visitors are coming to your web site with one goal in mind. They are looking for content, but they are also looking for other types of things that they can get for their web sites - namely other products and services. They’re mostly in the business-to-business market.

There’s no question that the hardest part is starting. The hardest part is starting without one person on your customer list. That’s why I think it’s so important to sell something cheap or even give something away for free - something with high perceived value so that you can build a potential customer list.

I always say that you start with inquiries, maybe, then you turn those inquiries into buyers. They bought something. Then, the third step is the most important. Turn those buyers into customers who will buy again and again. So, there’s no question that starting from scratch is the hardest. That’s where you should get busy on the Internet, off the Internet, or both developing a mailing list. Once you have a mailing list, you have an e-mail list, then you have people who you can bring your offers to and make new offers to. That’s crucial!!

That’s why I think articles like this are so important, because one of the problems that a lot of people have getting into this business, self-publishing, is cash flow. They don’t have a lot of cash flow. Well, if you’re spending six months or a year trying to create your very first product, you still have absolutely no cash flow.

How A Good Website Table Of Contents Will Keep Even Prospects With The Shortest Attention Spans Interested In What You Have To Say!

Website copy can suffer from some of the same maladies as conventional printed copy.

For example, with conventional sales copy, it’s important to break it up with subheads and headings to keep the copy spaced well, and make it look like much less work to read. Remember, the more work a prospect believes he or she is going to have to put into reading your sales copy, the less chance there is that they’re really going to read it all, let along buy what you have to offer.

So what do we do with that copy? We insert headings, bullets, subheads, headlines . . . we bold some copy, all-caps some copy, Italicize some more copy, underline still more copy, and sometimes maybe use all of these things at once.

By breaking up that copy with the headings and such, we’re making it look like it’s less work to read, while the bolding and italicizing and etc. simply serve to give the copy visual appeal. The copy no longer looks like a block of black ink - now it would have some variance in it.

Website copy gives you a little more leeway as far as long copy goes - people surf the net because they want more information, so typically more prospects will tolerate something that appears to be a little harder to read. But that appearance of taking a lot of effort to read will still give you problems when it comes to keeping prospects reading.

If they come to your website and they see this webpage that seems to go on and on downward forever, nothing but a block of copy with a neat background, neat background or not, they’re going to perceive reading the site as a lot of work.

So, what can you do about this? It’s simple!

Break your copy up into a variety of webpages. Each page can deal with a different aspect of your offer, such as the benefits, ordering instructions, etc. Then on your homepage or mainpage, you list links that lead to each of these sites!

Essentially, you’re creating a virtual table of contents for your website . . . and by clicking the title of what they want to go to next, prospects are instantly able to get the information they’re wanting! This is how a good website table of contents will keep even prospects with the shortest attention spans interested in what you have to say!

For those readers who want to read the copy from beginning to end, they have that option . . . but the reader who wants to know the basic points of the offer - and know them quickly without wading through a lot of copy - there’s an answer too! All they have to do is click on links to go exactly where they want to find what they’re looking for!

Therefore, even the person with the shortest attention span will find a reason to stay just long enough to figure out what you’ve got to offer - and that could be a sale that would have formerly been impossible!

A Fast Way to Get Customers and Visitors To Buy More From You At Your Website!

E-mail follow-ups to your website visitors and purchasers. It’s a fast way to get customers and visitors to buy more from you at your website! It sounds very simple but the Internet even makes it simpler. Thank you is a good start. No one says “thanks for visiting,” and it does make you stand out.

The other thing that few people seem to do, which is surprising, is follow-ups on that visit or on your purchase. We know from direct marketing how powerful follow-ups are and they’re just as powerful on the Internet, but infinitely easier.

If you have trouble doing mailing after mailing or follow-up after follow-up, you’ll find it very easy to do on the Internet - and it works like a charm. E-mail is just the easiest marketing tool, and we’re not talking about e-mailing like spam, sending out to a mass list. We’re talking about e-mailing people who have visited your website or made a purchase.

Of course if they’re making a purchase, it’s easy to capture their name and e-mail, but now we need to get you to use it.

The best way of using it is to use autoresponders. You can get automatic autoresponders from outside companies that are very inexpensive, like A-webber or get response.com, and when you send e-mail (to address at that company that is your own address), it sends the customer a series of e-mails. You get to say how often, how long they are, and decide the content - and these follow-up e-mails are done automatically. It’s a very powerful marketing tool.

On one of our associates’ sites he uses an e-mail follow-up that is working very well for him. He sends seven follow-up mailings to anyone who requests information or his free report. It’s done automatically.

When they enter their e-mail address, instead of bothering him, it goes directly to his account at one of these companies. They get the information automatically. That’s the first response.

Then over the next ten days they get reminders of the offers that he has made them. They’re all personalized. It fills in their name for them, and even when the offer expires. They get really nice short little notes that remind them of the offer and tell them how easy it is.

Each note is not a sales letter, it’s really just a note. It’s a follow-up. It’s the kind of follow-up he would have loved to have done by mail, but somehow just never got around to because it took too much organization, time, and money.

On the Internet all that follow-up is automatic ... and it’s free! It happens without him doing anything. The only time he has to get involved is when he needs to reply to someone.

What he has discovered is that, by writing simple notes that were really “folksy” and personalized, that people take this as personalized mail. His typical e-mail response follow-up says, “Hey Ralph, I know you’re busy, but have you had time to look at my offer? I think you’ll find this really something you would enjoy doing, it’s beneficial and a lot of fun. Let me know if you’re in.” Just that kind of message.

37% percent of the people he contacts that receive those messages are writing him to respond to that message. He tell us that caught him by surprise because he figured they knew it was automated mail. They don’t seem to respond to it that way. Maybe it’s because of the way they are worded.

He responds to them because it gives him a perfect selling situation. They respond to tell him why they didn’t buy, why they are not going to buy, or if they have a question. Those are all selling situations. If he followed up with e-mail and someone has taken the time to answer that message, and tell him why they aren’t going to buy, what they are really saying is, “I’m very interested in this or I wouldn’t have gone there. I’m even more interested in it or I wouldn’t have bothered to reply. So convince me, sell me. Tell me something I need to know so I can buy this.” It’s another selling opportunity!

Responding by e-mail is really not a problem at all, because it’s not like sitting down and writing a formal letter. Just a few sentences will do. It’s very personal, very immediate, and speed is important.

Twice a day our friend sits down and respond to any e-mails that are in the box. These people think, “Wow, these people are responsive, they care about my business.” A lot of those turn into sales.

Here’s an example: He got an e-mail from someone that said, “Sorry, can’t buy. I’m just really busy and I don’t have the time.” When he responded, he didn’t even have to address it. Just hit reply and it goes back and he said, “Hey, I’m sorry that you’re so busy and don’t have time, I think you would enjoy this. Just remember while you’re working so hard that the reason you’re working is to enjoy things like this. Take care and remember me when you do have time.” The next day he got an order from them. Just that comment was enough to change their mind. They just wanted him to give them an excuse to purchase.

E-mail follow-up is crucial to your website. It’s something most people don’t do, when in fact it’s a path to put dollars in your pocket. It’s simple, it’s inexpensive, there are no stamps to buy, no trips to the post office, and it’s free!

Why You Should NEVER Worry About Competition On The Internet!

We want to tell you why you should never worry about competition on the Internet. We hear this all the time from people ... “Well, gosh I’m out there looking and there are hundreds of guys with web sites offering, you know, business opportunities or old clocks or whatever I think about selling on the Internet!”

They are worried that with so many web sites they will end up without any business. There is a basis for that worry of course. It’s true that recent statistics show there are 2.2 million web sites currently online representing roughly three hundred million pages, so it is a bit daunting when you look around and realize this.

But the other thing to keep in mind is that those three hundred million pages are really owned or dominated by a relatively small number of what we refer to as mega web sites. So there is really only about 25,000 seriously large web sites containing about half of all the pages out there.

But all of that aside, forget about that! If there were a billion pages out there, the good news is, folks, we’re not even halfway to where we’re going to be by the year 2005 with the number of users on the Internet! The number of users vastly outnumber the number of web sites, even though that may seem hard to believe.

We just saw some recent information from International Data Corporation (referred to as I.D.C.) and the Computer Industry Almanac (which is, funny enough, referred to as the C.I.A.). They both agree that by the year 2005 there will be five hundred million web users worldwide. That’s up from 83,000,000 by the end of 1998. Now do the math. That’s five times, that means we’re only one-fifth of the way there folks, and the number that is up there now is 83,000,000 people!

Now the trick and the strategy to never worrying about competition on the Internet is to keep in mind that there is enough business there for everyone. All you have to concentrate on is getting some people coming through your web site and know that if you get enough through, some will buy.

Realize all you need is a few regular customers out of those hundreds of millions that are pouring online. It’s the nature of people that are traveling on the web today.

They go from web site to web site to web site.

Let’s say there are 200 web sites offering the very same thing you offer and people go one, two, three, four, five and they see it again and again and they keep bumping into it. What if your web site is the one they hit when they finally think, “You know, I’ve been thinking about buying this for a long time now. I keep seeing it everywhere I go. I’m going to make a purchase right now.” Then you’ve got the sale and you just take all the right steps to keep that customer happy and coming back for more!

Look at the Internet as an ocean full of ready customers waiting to buy, and all you’ve got to do is find that one little tiny spot where you can usually throw a net and pick a few customers up. It’s really that easy. It is easier than it sounds. It takes a little patience. It takes some perseverance. It is a matter of using 15 or 20 minutes of your day with consistent regular action.

Seven Things You Can Add To Your E-Mail Messages That Will Make Them Sell Like Crazy!

I would like go over seven things that you can add to your e-mail messages that will make them sell like crazy. Some of what I am going to share are things you might have already heard, so hopefully, I’ll have something new to add that will help you develop and deepen your understanding.

Number 1 - You have to make your e-mail message readable at a glance. Don’t use all caps. Use short sentences, short words, and punchy kinds of sentences. Make it readable. Don’t make it look like it is going to be difficult to read.

Number 2 - This is very closely related to the number 1. Send short e-mail messages. Remember, people are bombarded with e-mail, so your message has to be short, sweet, and simple. Begin your e-mail messages with the strongest selling point possible. That’s our best idea.

Number 3 - Get their attention. Your e-mail messages have to promise quick results. They must be benefit-rich. Remember, your copy is king, so you have to make things interesting, and compelling-you have to pull the reader in, grab them, and get their attention.

Number 4 - Create clear and compelling offers. State your offer in as few words as possible. Keep it clear - crystal clear.

Number 5 - Use premiums and bonuses to spice up your e-mail offers. It is important to know that premiums and bonuses drive sales and inquiries. You have to make somebody an offer if you want them to come to your web site. If you want them to download something, give them some kind of an offer. Make it worth their time.

Number 6 - Eliminate your prospect or customer’s risk. Use risk reversal - when you make an offer to your customer, set it up to be lopsided in their favor not your favor.

Number 7 - Something that many people don’t do, but can make you a lot of money if you will use this, is test your e-mail messages. Test new headlines, new offers, different prices if you are even mentioning your price in your e-mail (which you shouldn’t).

You are testing one e-mail message against another e-mail message, and if you do that consistently, I promise you you’re going to find out what works the best. Your customers vote with their check books and credit cards.

By testing you find out what your customers like the most, what they respond to the most, and then in the future that will help you develop similar but related ideas based on the knowledge that you’ve gained from testing. It’s something that a lot of direct response marketers hate to do. We I hate testing because it takes some thinking and it takes time and some patience. But, believe me, it can pay off, and it will pay off for you if you do it.

Trying to create e-mail messages that sell like crazy without studying the powerful selling copy others are using is like a brain surgeon that tried to do surgery without studying the brain first. Think about that. Take a medical doctor who has never done brain surgery. Would you want that doctor to operate on your brain? No! You want somebody that has studied it very carefully and spent some time. You don’t want to be the first one that they operate on, either. The point is that you have to study what is working for other people and then use those related kinds of ideas in your own e-mail.

No matter how good your site is, and how desirable the information that you post, and no matter how large an audience that information appeals to, you can’t build your site and expect the advertisers to just come. It’s no field of dreams. Advertisers go where traffic exists, not where traffic will be. You need to remember that. Advertisers go where traffic already exists.

In planning our web sites, sometimes we forget that. Nothing sells to advertisers but exposures, traffic, clicks, and sales. That’s what they pay for, but they pay for it only when it is there, not when it’s going to be there.

So, what’s this mean? Are we really saying that you can’t sell advertising easily on the Internet? No. That is not what we are saying at all. But, we are saying that there are six steps you can take, and we’ll go over them briefly to make certain that your site attracts the advertisers that you want.

Step 1: Build Traffic.

You need to plan to build traffic. That’s not for the advertisers. You don’t have to show that to anyone. That’s just for you. But you need to know exactly how you’re going to build the traffic. How you are going to advertise, promote, list, news releases, whatever to build that traffic.

Step 3: Be Able to Support Your Site With No Advertisers Until You Have Sufficient Traffic.

This is the fatal step for so many people. A web site is not expensive, but when doing our financial plans we expect to have advertising from day one. That’s not a typical thing to have happen, so make certain that you can support your site until your traffic numbers are up and you can attract your advertisers.

Step 4: Get Banner Ads From The Get-Go.

You need to install banner ads - a banner rotation program - from the beginning. That’s not going to bring you income, but it’s going to help you build traffic. It is very important from day one to have those banner ads on your site because they say to potential advertisers that this is a place where you can advertise and this is a site that is looking for advertisers. You need to target your advertisers appropriate to the size of your site. Many of us, when we start planning, say “Well, we have dreams of selling the Cokes, and the beer companies, and the big budget advertisers to advertise on our site.”

The truth is, they’re not going to advertise on your site because their placements are made by large agencies. These large agencies make their money on a percentage basis. It takes the same amount of paperwork for an agency to place an ad on your site for a few hundred dollars, as it does to place an ad on a major site for $10,000.

So the agency only has to do that one piece of paperwork for their commission. Therefore, they’re going to put their company on the large sites to make the large income.

You need to target smaller companies that are already advertising on the Internet. Companies that are more than willing to pay $50, $100, $150 or $250 for an ad, because that’s what they can afford. They’re very comfortable advertising with other similar size companies. So, keep your expectations realistic for the advertiser you’re going to look for, and you’ll have much better results.

You need to actively solicit advertising. It’s not going to come to you. It’s not hard to do - in fact it’s really easy to do. We’ll show you how.

First of all, you start looking for sites that are similar to yours. If you have a travel-related site, start looking for other travel related sites. When you go to those sites, find out how much traffic they have and what they charge for ads. They’ll give you that information. Tell them, “I may want to advertise on your site.” They’ll tell you what their traffic is, and then you’ll see how they charge.

Next, you look and you see who is advertising on their site. When you see who advertises on their site, you’ve found potential advertisers to advertise on your site.

Now you have a really good advantage when going after those advertisers. You know that they are advertising on similar sites, what they’re paying on those other sites, the amount of traffic they are getting on those other sites, and all this works as a guide to show you how to price your advertising according to the traffic that you have.

This is a very simple idea. There are about fifty thousand books published each year. Only up to three hundred of them actually being big sellers and going on to be successful. Go to the publisher and get permission to promote those books by mail or on the Internet. My suggestion would be that you set different prices based on how many of the reports they took. If they took just one report, it might be $19.50 for reprint rights to put it on their web site. Or, if they take all of the reports on a certain subject area, of course you’d charge a lower price per report. You could do this many different ways.

This is a great service to provide other web site owners. They would pay just a small, reasonable fee to you, and in turn they would immediately get one or more reports that they can use as content for their web site.

Many of them are starving for content. They want these reports, but they don’t know where or how to get them. That’s how it was with us. Once we sold our first little sixteen page booklet, we had a group of customers. It became very easy to figure out what to sell to those people. We knew that they liked our booklet. They wrote to us. They talked to us on the telephone.

Here’s the second part of this equation. We intimately knew a lot about these people. We were the kind of customers that bought the type of products that we were selling to these people. You have to intimately know your customers.

You should initially develop a product based on a subject that you love. That’s one of our best tips to you. Find something that you love, a market that you love, come up with a benefit driven title, and break that subject down so it’s “Seven steps to get rich with your website” or whatever.

Simply create an informational product using some of the ideas we’ve talked about in these articles. Then, you have a group of customers. You have a relationship with these people. They will buy from you again and again. The better you can know these people in an intimate kind of way, the easier it’s going to be for you.

The question doesn’t become, “My God, what can I sell to these people?” All of a sudden, the question is “I’ve got dozens of things I can sell to these people. What are the best products to sell to these people?” It’s a different problem than sitting around scratching your head, trying to figure out what to sell. Now, the question is “What can I sell that’s going to sell the very best?”

I just want to say for those who are confused right now and a little bit frustrated, it does get easier! It gets simpler!! It gets easier!! Especially when you have a group of hungry customers that will continue and want to buy from you again and again.
